Ernest Aliseda ’88 serves as Chief Operating Officer & Associate Vice President of the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen.
A proud Aggie and former member of the Aggie Corps of Cadets, Judge Aliseda brings more than three decades of leadership experience in higher education governance, law, public service, health care, and military service.
Before joining Texas A&M, Judge Aliseda served as General Counsel for DHR Health, one of the largest physician-owned hospital systems in the nation, where he oversaw both the Legal Department and the Risk Management Department. During his tenure, he also served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Houston Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine.A lifelong resident of the Rio Grande Valley, Judge Aliseda has devoted his career to public service and the rule of law. He is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, whose final assignment was as a Military Judge, and a retired State District Judge, having served both the 139th and 398th State District Courts. He continues to serve as a part-time Municipal Judge and State Magistrate for the City of McAllen.
Judge Aliseda has received statewide appointments from Texas Governors George W. Bush, Rick Perry, and Greg Abbott. His statewide service includes appointment as a State District Judge, service on the One Call Board of Texas, service as Commissioner on the Texas Military Preparedness Commission, and service as a Regent of The University of Texas System from 2013 to 2019.
During his service on the UT System Board of Regents, Judge Aliseda served during the creation of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the development of medical schools at both UTRGV and UT Austin. Most recently, Governor Abbott appointed him to the OneStar National Service Commission. For the last twelve years, he has also served as a board member of Senator Ted Cruz’s U.S. Military Academy Selection Board.
Judge Aliseda received his Bachelor of Arts from Texas A&M University, his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center, and his Master of Laws in Health Law from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. He is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is licensed in Texas and Illinois.
